I try to set up the screen saver but it will not activate at all yet the preview show exactly the proper response?
Any Ideas?Support Engineer Community StarHi BruceFromFL,
1) What exactly do you mean by “but it will not activate at all”?
2) Do you get any error message or error code?
Just to make sure, have you followed the method as put down here.
1. Open Screen Saver Settings by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type screen saver, and then click Change screen saver.
2. In the Screen saver dialog box, click the screen saver that you want to use, and then click OK.

If that is exactly what you did and failed to get the screen saver on the desktop then I would want you to perform a System File checker scan and see if that can fix the issue.
Run System File Checker (SFC) scan.
Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:sfc /scannow
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

If that does no good then you might be interested in the link below where there are discussions on the same issue and there seems to be some possible resolutions as well. Look for the response by cornow dated Saturday, October 31, 2009 12:29 AM in particular.
Let me know if none of them worked or for further assistance.

hat kind of mouse do you have? Some older mice incorrectly register movement on certain surfaces like wood or glass, automatically interrupting the screensaver. In addition, Vista and Windows 7 have a feature where Windows automatically increases the delay if the screensaver is interrupted shortly after activating. If the mouse has indeed been interrupting the screensaver for the whole night, the screensaver might not activate even if you wait for those 15 minutes.Try unplugging your mouse for one night and see whether the screensaver has activated in the morning.

NON-TECHNICAL SOLUTION TO SCREENSAVER ISSUES...
No Code-writing, No Registry...
I set up my Dell Inspiron 570 with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium and had the same screensaver problems mentioned above - the screensaver would not activate...
I read on another forum about some folks correcting the Screensaver issue by replacing their Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse. Hmmm - I was using the same mouse that I had used on my prior computer, my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 (Model 1058) and wondered if THAT might be the problem.
Before disconnecting my MS Wireless Laser Mouse and connecting the wired mouse that came with the computer (who wants to step BACKWARDS with technology)... I decided to try an experiment!
Without going through ANY of the complicated steps in the prior posts - as much of it was definitely WAY too technical for my little brain, I decided to first try updating the drivers for my wireless mouse. I went to the Microsoft website and with minimal searching, connected to and downloaded the new driver-updates for my specific mouse.
VOILA!! My screensaver now works perfectly!! I hope this simple solution works for you! Obviously, if you are using another brand of mouse, I dunno if new drivers will be a fix, but it might be worth a try!
Kidstone
Installing the latestest mouse and keyboard drivers did it for me.

Setpoint 4.7 Breaks Windows XP Screensaver - Logitech Forums
02-24-2009
I thought I was the proud owner of an MX Revolution mouse and Illuminated Keyboard... except that I'm forced to use Setpoint 4.7 as it seems it's the only version that supports the keyboard. I have spent 2 days trying to work out why any screensaver and 'Power Save' options in XP SP3 have suddenly stopped working and now I know.
Setpoint breaks it! Remove Setpoint - all is well. Put it back - no screensaver and the monitor refuses to go to sleep.
I've had problems with Logitech webcam software in the past and put it down to 'bad luck' or 'something else', but it seems (after reading the wealth of posts all over the web on this) that I'm not alone. Is there a chance that Logitech might be able to produce software that works and that doesn't cause problems, to go with the excellent quality of the hardware?
I'm extremely disappointed. Be nice to think someone in Logitech is looking at this and taking it seriously, but looking at the history of the problem on this forum, I'm not at all sure that's the case.
I would be very happy to be offered a fix / workaround / new version or otherwise proved wrong.
Thanks.
