Performance metrics are collected by the performance measurement component of the agent is called coda. The latter is a part of the HP Operations agents. The embedded performance component collects performance counter and instance data from the operating system.
It collects approximately 30 metrics with interval of five minutes. So using in policy interval less then that does not provide anything new. One important metric is CPU utilization. So in many cases you can avoid massaging uptime if you have HPOM :-). The metric are as following:
GBL_ACTIVE_CPU : 4 GBL_CPU_TOTAL_UTIL : 4.13 GBL_CPU_SYS_MODE_UTIL : 2.22 GBL_CPU_USER_MODE_UTIL : 1.91
The collected values are stored in a proprietary persistent data store from which they are retrieved and transformed into presentation values. With HPOM, you can set up threshold monitors for the performance metrics collected by the embedded performance component. The only problem is that domumentation is very fuzzy and you need to open a couple of tickets to get started. Here is a very rudimantary overview. Two sets of metric are provided by coda:

The only problem is that this page is absent in a typical HPOM installation. But opening a ticket resolves this problem very nicely :-)

Implementing Message Policies

The collection interval is by default five minutes and cannot be changed. The data is kept in the data store for up to five weeks. When the database is full after five weeks of data have been collected, the oldest data is rolled out one week at a time and deleted. For more information about troubleshooting the embedded performance component, see the HPOM Administratorís Reference.
Component you may want to disable metric collection for the embedded performance component if you have HP Performance Agent on the same node, since OVPA collects a superset of the metrics available through the embedded performance component data source.
With data collection disabled, the process coda continues to run and remains under HPOM control. It then acts as a data communication layer for OVPA. To disable data collection for the embedded performance component on HTTPS-based managed nodes with OVPA 4.5 installed, use the following command:
ovconfchg -ns coda -set DISABLE_PROSPECTOR false
Set the parameter DISABLE_PROSPECTOR to true to enable data collection again.
