From Wikipedia

Pop music is a music genre that developed from the mid-1950s as a softer alternative to rock 'n' roll and later to rock music. It has a focus on commercial recording, often orientated towards a youth market, usually through the medium of relatively short and simple love songs. While these basic elements of the genre have remained fairly constant, pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, particularly borrowing from the development of rock music, and utilizing key technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes.

Musicologists often identify the following characteristics as typical of the pop music genre:[2][3][4][6]

The main medium of pop music is the song, often between two and a half and three and a half minutes in length, generally marked by a consistent and noticeable rhythmic element, a mainstream style and a simple traditional structure.[7]

Common variants include the verse-chorus form and the thirty-two-bar form, with a focus on melodies and catchy hooks, and a chorus that contrasts melodically, rhythmically and harmonically with the verse.[8] The beat and the melodies tend to be simple, with limited harmonic accompaniment.[9]

The lyrics of modern pop songs typically focus on simple themes often love and romantic relationships although there are notable exceptions.[2]

According to Simon Frith pop music is produced "as a matter of enterprise not art...is designed to appeal to everyone" and "doesn't come from any particular place or mark off any particular taste." It is "not driven by any significant ambition except profit and commercial reward...and, in musical terms, it is essentially conservative."

It is "provided from on high (by record companies, radio programmers and concert promoters) rather than being made from below...Pop is not a do-it-yourself music but is professionally produced and packaged."

From Souvenirs To Souvenirs

Behnam Ahmadzadeh10 months ago

A lonely room, an empty chair
Another day so hard to bear
The things around me that I see remind me of
The past and how it all used to be

From souvenirs to more souvenirs I live
With days gone by when our hearts had all to give
From souvenirs to more souvenirs I live
With dreams, you left behind
I'll keep on turning in my mind

There'll never be another you
No one will share the worlds we knew
And now that loneliness has come to take your place
I close my eyes and see your face

[Jun 06, 2020] Russian Christians in Remote Village Sing Beautiful Rendition of American Appalachian Song 'Christ is Risen' (Video)

Jun 06, 2020 | russia-insider.com

It may sound like the 1800s in the Appalachian mountains of America, but it's much more recent (2020), and in an unexpected location.

A few hours north of Moscow, less than an hour west of Rostov the Great , the tiny village of Davydovo has a group of Russian Orthodox singers who are embracing traditional, American, 19th century Appalachian melodies:

This Russian love for traditional Appalachian music has not been limited to remote Russian villages. It is also being sung in more highly populated areas.

In the Moscow region, these talented singers -- inside a beautiful Orthodox Church -- recently recorded a lovely rendition of the same song:

trampling down death by death,

and upon those in the tombs

bestowing life!"

Probably one of the most intriguing things "Something" is the number of artists older than The Beatles' generation who covered that song which must have amused George Harrison. Even Liberace did a cover.

Killing Me Softly With His Song | Roberta Flack | Lyrics

Arthur Harrison 2 months ago

"Killing Me Softly with His Song" was composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel, written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman who recorded the song in late 1971. The most popular cover version was recorded by Roberta Flack in 1973. Frank Sinatra never recorded this song. The version here is by Perry Como, recorded in 1973.

History of "SWAY" (Quien Sera) - 4 versions- Gorme, Rydell

GSilverWorld Published on Jul 19, 2008

The melody was written in 1953 as a cha-cha by Mexican band leader Pablo Beltran Ruiz and titled Quien Sera. That means "Who will it be" ... who will be my next love after the one I lost. Spanish lyrics were added. In America original English words were written and the title became Sway. It became a #15 hit for Dean Martin in 1954, and #21 for Eileen Barton. The song went on to become a popular part of the English repertoire. Bobby Rydell had a big hit with it in 1960, in the rock+roll era. In 1979 he hit big again with a popular disco version. Lately artists like the PussyCat Dolls have made good recordings. Selections: 1) Quien Sera by the Ruiz orchestra 2) @2:20 Quien Sera by Eydie Gorme sung in Spanish and English, from her rare 1960 United Artists LP "I Feel So Spanish" 3) @4:40 Sway - Bobby Rydell 1960 #14, from original vinyl 4) @6:59 Sway disco version by Rydell. Edited and shortened here from 5:10. My favorite of all is Rydell's 1960. It has that intriguing female chorus harmony, that was sometimes used at the time, also found on Bobby Darin's "Nature Boy" and Donnie Brooks' "Mission Bell". Julie London did an excellent rendition on her rare album "Latin In a Satin Mood".

Paint it Black - Vietnam War

Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones, accompanied by footage of the Vietnam War. (The link to the side describing it as a Beastie Boys Song is WRONG, YouTube automatically set that when the video was uploaded, I have NO control over it.) I realize this is a sensitive video, but please, keep any "nasty" comments to yourself or discuss elsewhere, this is much appreciated. Such comments will be removed, and after multiple cases you will be blocked from the video. If you do not wish to watch, move along and leave it at that. Note that the song is NOT the "theme song" of this war (or anything of that sort), rather just a song to play with the footage. At no point was it ever intended to be the "themesong" of the Vietnam War.
