Restore the image from backup and merge your Delta Tree with it

Select image that does not have the files you detected if any

Acronis images are browsable like regular drives so this is an easy operation with Acronis.

Run your imaging program to restore the image of the C: partition from the backup

Details depends on the program used. Again it is better to do it after booting from a USB drive will you recovery image.  If you use Acronis image I recommend you to use boot disk, just in case.

Update you AV and scan C: drive

If your image has old spyware/trojans there is chance that it

Restore mail, bookmarks, cookies and other files that differ from the image

This is the most important step and due to multiple location of files it is far from being trivial. It is better to write a small script that covers all your important location. Essntially the list of folders is that same as above. Try not to overwrite system files.

Please note that if you have new macros for Intetellytype they will be restored with your My Documents folder

Accclip, PalmDesktop and other programs that store data inside they Program and files tree should be treated individually or, better, you should create links to their data folders from your data drive.

You can use you backup of "infected disk C" for this purpose.

Step by step guide to merging your information from saved folders with the backup image

This total process usually takes approximatly 2-4 hours depending of the size of your drive, numvber and compleity of additional applications installed. I presuppose that all your data are on special data partion so your user folder comtent is minimal (less then one gigabyte).

Step 1: Update Microsoft Security essentials and scan you restored copy.

It takes approximately 30 min. If you have map of running processes from HijackIT (you should it before creating a backup copy), compare map with the recent map map that you got from an infected computer(if any).  In results of previous two steps negative changes that your backup copy is infected are minimal and you can continue. Because backup copy is, say, a month old chances that is infected with infection that in not detedted by will be at least detected by current version of . It it was detected then repreat restore with ealrlier copy.

Step 2: Fully patch your Restored copy

Step 6: Update versions of your favorite applications if your backup was really old  (usually less then a dozen programs). For example:

Step 3: Copy back application data you saved

Step 4: Copying files from your user folder

Step 5: Installing any missing applications

Step 6. Remove redundant files to make image smaller.

Step 7: Run CC cleaner

Step 8 Make a backup on newly patched and updated C-drive (this will be handy if the next disaster strikes)
