Strange disk activity
I notice disk activity under Windows 95 although I'm not using the
computer at this momemt. What could be the cause for this?
There are several possible reasons for this.
- If you see a periodic short flickering of the harddisk LED, then
what you see is that Windows 95 is periodically checking your CD-ROM
drive if you inserted a new CD. This is needed so that the Autoplay feature
of Windows 95 can work.
- Another possibility is that within one minute of closing a program
(or releasing a lot of memory within a program) Windows 95 will
rearrange the swapfile to reduce the swapfile size. This will cause heavy
disk activity that stops by itself after a few seconds.
- A third possibility is that you are running System Agent from
Microsoft Plus! which has just started ScanDisk or Defrag to run in the
background.
